This is one of those cocktails that just makes you effortlessly cool. I like a good Martini but I always have the worry of the glass being too fragile while I’m drinking it. I’m concerned that one decent sneeze and the glass would explode. And don’t even get me started on walking between 2 points with that glass! It’s like a bloody wave pool.
This comes in a sturdy, low centre of gravity having Old Fashioned glass.
The only prep you need for this is the ice. Drinks such as this call for massive ice cubes. That way, your drink gets optimally cool while not watering down. But don’t go buying an ice cube maker just for this. All you need is a disposable plastic half pint cup.
Half fill your plastic (or styrofoam but that only lasts one go) and put it in the freezer the night before. Et, voila! One giant ice cube!
And back to the drink:
2 Parts Gordon’s Gin
1 Part Aperol (or Campari)
1 Part Rose/Red Vermouth
Squeeze of Lemon Juice
Orange Slice to Garnish
To make the cocktail:
- Stir all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker with plenty of ice
- Put your massive ice cube in an Old Fashioned glass
- Strain your drink over
- Rub the orange peel all around the rim of your glass and drop it in
- Inhale the sunshine you have created
